Thermo-bug®

How to use the device against bed bugs and similar pests

Successful heat treatment with Thermo-bug® requires careful preparation and precise execution. For uniform, penetrating room air heating, we recommend using two Thermo-bug® basic 3.0 units. In the following, we will show a typical procedure so that your rooms are quickly and effectively freed from bed bugs.

Setup

1. Preparation

Clear out and secure

Remove all heat-sensitive or valuable items (e.g., food, medicines, cosmetics, electronic devices, musical instruments) from the room. Move all furniture slightly away from the wall and stand the mattress upright in the room.

Electrical devices

Switch off all electrical devices and unplug them (including refrigerator/freezer) to avoid damage to the compressor.

Fire protection

Deactivate or protect smoke detectors and sprinkler systems in the room to be treated so that they are not unintentionally triggered by the heat.

Sealing

Seal all open joints with Thermo-bug Natural Pest Control Spray. Do the same with all sockets and light switches.

2. Execution

Set up devices

Technicians place Thermo-bug® devices and, if necessary, additional fans in the room. Two devices can ensure a particularly even heat distribution.

Heating up

The room is brought to about 55–60 °C (sometimes up to 70 °C). This takes a while depending on the size of the room. During this time, all persons leave the room.

Monitor temperature

As a rule, professionals measure the temperature at various points to ensure that the necessary heat is reached everywhere.

3. Follow-up

Cooling down

After about 24 hours, the treatment is usually finished. Then the seals are removed and windows are opened for ventilation. Important: Before switching off, the devices run for about 10 minutes in pure fan mode so that they cool down gently on the materials.

Inspection and cleaning

After the room has cooled down, you should check all furniture and objects. As a rule, all bed bugs are dead because the heat treatment was effective in all cracks. The dead pests must ultimately be removed. Additional measures (e.g. washing all textiles again at 60 °C) can contribute to safety. Basically, a thorough cleaning of the premises is recommended.

Release

The room can be used again immediately. Since no poisons were used, no waiting times are necessary.
